Why do you think you are an outdoor freak?
Without being an outdoor freak, you certainly don’t start trail running and even less likely, decide to organize a trail running event. You find out later on, that organizing a trail run is not just about exploring all the known and unknown paths and creating new running trails, if you want to make the running experience the best possible. But when you’re young and naive, you just want challenges, and every outdoor freak probably has a little bit of that stubbornness.
What does it mean to you to enjoy outdoor sports?
Above all, disconnection from normal daily worries. When you turn off your brain and indulge in nature, the pleasure of all possible outdoor activities is the greatest. You connect with nature and begin to appreciate its beauty. For me, this mainly means carefree running through the endless trails that our country has to offer. It is also important for me to leave natural environment as it was before my visit. That is why I really like that the Soča Outdoor Festival places great emphasis on nature conservation.
What are your associations with the Soča Valley?
The first are definitely the Soča River, the mighty world of the Julian Alps, and the Soča Outdoor Festival, which has traditionally been on my running calendar. I also associate the Julian Alps Trail Run with the Soča Valley, as its longest trail starts in Kobarid. I hope that in the future this association to the Soča Valley will become more common among people. To sum up, when I think about Soča Valley, I mainly think about its wonderful nature and the outdoor experiences it has to offer.
What can we expect from you at the event Bedtime stories for the outdoor freaks?
My bedtime story is not directly related to my crazy outdoor achievement, but to the Julian Alps Trail Run, which proved to be a real challenge for us organizers. At the same time, I believe that my experience will lead to many intriguing stories from the audience. I further believe that Soča Outdoor Festival runners will come to run in Kranjska Gora in the fall. Whoever has not yet signed up for the Julian Alps Trail Run, will be a step closer to it after hearing my story.
Your life motto?
I can hardly say that I live by any motto. Nevertheless, I believe in dedication and passion for work, life … and that real connecting and collaboration makes us better individuals and also improves our society as a whole. This is also true for our Julian Alps Trail Run event, which is a result of dedication to trail running, the project itself, and the cooperation between the organizers of the Soča Outdoor Festival, Ultra Trail Vipava Valley and Kranjska Gora Trail Run.
