Soča Orienteering

Orienteering is developing in Tolmin and the surrounding area and orienteers will gather from all parts of Slovenia in Tolmin for the second year in a row.

On Saturday, 10. June, there will be a SOL (Slovenian Orienteering League) Sprint race in the Tolmin town itself. It will be possible to see orange and white flags and runners whose goal is to run from start to finish, navigating carefully between their control points, as accurately as possible.

On Sunday, 11. June,  there will be a Primorska Orienteering League on Mengore Hill. It’s a hill located south of the Alpine town Tolmin. Here there was an Austro-Hungarian defence line situated over the two summits a century ago. The remains of the First World War such as ditches, shelters, ruins and monuments make the terrain very interesting. The orienteering map “Mengore” was made in 2016 and was redrawn and expanded in April 2017.

Orienteering offers a challenge to everyone, regardless of  age, or fitness. We can always accept the challenge and navigate from control point to control point at a pace that suits us.

On Friday 9th June we are organising a “Come and Try It” orienteering event for those who would like to find out more about the sport. We will explain orienteering and set out an easy course on a map that is not too complicated.
